Cellulite

Cellulite occurs when underlying fat deposits begin to push through layers of collagen fibers, or connective tissue, under the skin (often in the buttocks and thigh areas, but also on arms, stomachs, and other common trouble spots as well).   Connective tissue can be weakened by hormones, lack of exercise and muscle tone, excess fat, and poor circulation.

Forming of Cellulite

While cellulite is not a health treat, it is unsightly, uncomfortable, and in extreme cases, painful.  Cellulite also causes poor blood circulation to the skin layers, muscle and connective tissue..  As a result, people that suffer from cellulite often have trapped toxins and water retention in their systems.  Therefore, that ugly cellulite is the visual evidence of general body imbalance.  Diminishing or banishing cellulite matters more than for purely esthetics.

While the most obvious culprit is extra weight (if fat deposits under the skin are enlarged, these push thorough weakening the collagen fibers and connective tissue, making cellulite more apparent), being overweight is not the solely cause for this condition:  even thin, lean woman and men can have cellulite.

Cellulite is more prevalent in women than men.  Women tend to carry more fat around their hips and thighs. We also have less supportive connective tissue to keep it all in place. If you think of a scaffolding outside a building that has those X crosses on them, that is sort of what men's fat chambers have.  Women do not have those reinforcing X crosses of connective tissue.  Nevertheless, about 10% of all men suffer from cellulite.

Cellulite also gets worse with age, as hormones also seem to play a role in the appearance of cellulite:  as we age, our bodies produce less estrogen (men also produce estrogen!)—a hormone that helps keep blood vessels flowing smoothly. Less estrogen can mean poorer circulation, which can also mean a decrease in new collagen production and the breakdown of older connective tissue.

Tendency to get cellulite might be in your genes:  It's true that cellulite runs in families; if your mother and grandmother had cellulite, you have a better chance of also developing it.

As you can see, cellulite is a complex condition that arises from multiple factors:  hormonal, genetic and predisposing factors, aside from lifestyle.

Getting rid of cellulite demands the incorporation of new habits:  your eating, exercise and grooming routines might need to be adjusted.  Nevertheless, your body will thank you for it!  Usually, an anti-cellulite lifestyle yields a healthier, leaner, more attractive body.

What can we do?

On a positive note, cellulite is extremely responsive to an all plan attack.  having smooth skin really shows how much you care for your body!  Here are the necessary steps to get rid of cellulite:

  • If you are overweight, you need to limit your calorie intake:  Our blog contains several easy to follow 4 week diets that are medically approved and reasonable.
  • Exercise:  A regular exercise practice prevents and reduces its appearance. Cellulite occurs when connective fibers underneath the skin become weak or lose their elasticity, but stretching and strengthening those areas (in addition to burning away excess fat overall) sure help!  Take a walk three times a week.  Climb stairs instead of taking the elevator.  Al these activities help tremendously.
  • Skin firming creams can cure cellulite:  Choose a herbal or natural products to massage in trouble areas at least three times a week.  This action should be part of your basic personal care routine, just as brushing your teeth.  It is always necessary to massage away toxins from skin layers and nodules.  Doctors and aestheticians alike are trying to incorporate the culture of frequent massages in America due to their unquestionable benefits.
  • Wear loose clothing:  Anything that restricts circulation will make cellulite worse.  Keep clothing light and comfortable.
  • Take a good anti-cellulite supplement on daily basis:  Natural, herbal supplements help the body tremendously in the fight against cellulite.  These supplements are formulated to drain and detox your body while increasing metabolism, good circulation and rebuilding connective tissue.
